TheSFF‐8639TestAdapterCareandHandlingPrecautions
TheSFF‐8639TestAdapterrequirescarefulhandlingtoavoiddamage.Improperhandling
techniques,orusingtoosmallacablebendradius,candamagethecoaxialcableconnections
withintheadapterhousingorthecablesthemselves.Thiscanoccuratanypointalongthe
cable.Toachieveoptimumperformanceandto
prolongthe8639‐TPA’slife,observethe
followinghandlingprecautions:
CAUTION1:AvoidTorqueForces(Twisting)
Whileindividualcoaxialcableswithinthetestadapterhavesomerotationalfreedom,
twistingthe8639‐TPAasaunit,withoneendheldstationary,maydamageorseverely
degradeperformance.AdherencetoCaution
5(below)helpstoavoidtwisting.
CAUTION2:AvoidSharpCableBends
Neverbendcoaxialcablesintoaradiusof26mm(1‐inch)orless.Neverbendcablesgreater
than90°.Singleormultiplecablebendsmustbekeptwithinthislimit.Bendingthe8639‐TPA
cablesless
thana26mm(1‐Inch)radiuswillpermanentlydamageorseverelydegradetest
adapterperformance.
CAUTION3:AvoidCableTension(PullForces)
Neverapplytension(pullforces)toanindividualcoaxialcablethatisgreaterthan2.3kg
(5lbs.).Toavoidapplyingtension,alwaysplaceaccessoriesandequipment
onasurfacethat
allowsadjustmenttoeliminatetensiononthe8639‐TPAandcables.Useadjustable
elevationstandsorapparatustoaccuratelyplaceandsupportthe8639‐TPA.
CAUTION4:Connectthe8639‐TPAFirst
Topreventtwisting,bending,orapplyingtensiontothecoaxialcableswhenconnecting
a
8639‐TPA,alwaysattachthe8639‐TPAtothedeviceundertest(DUT)orcableundertest
beforeattachinganySMAconnectors.Carefullyalignthe8639connectorsandthengently
pushtheconnectorstogetheruntilfullyseated.
Ifthe8639‐TPAmustbeturnedortwistedtomakeconnection
totheDUT,avoidusingthe
8639‐TPAhousingalonetomakethisoccur.Trytodistributethetorqueforcesalongthe
lengthofthetestsetupandcabling.Ifthisisnotpossible,itisrecommendedtofirstloosen
ordisconnecttheSMAconnectionsatthe8639‐TPA,makethe
connectiontotheDUTand
thenre‐tightenorattachthetestequipmentleads.
NOTE:Onlygripthetestadapterhousingwheninsertingor
extractingthe8639‐TPAtoorfromtheDUT.Pullingdirectlyonthe
8639‐TPAcablesorusingthemtoinsertthe8639‐TPAmaycause
damage.
CAUTION5:CarefullyMakeSMAConnections
Toconnectthe8639‐TPASMAconnectors,followthesesteps:
1. Holdthecablestationarybygraspingthecableattheblackheat‐shrinksection
neartheSMAconnector.
2. InsertthematingSMAbarrelandhand‐tightenthefree‐spinningSMAnutonto
the
connectorwhileavoidingpulling,bending,ortwistingthe8639‐TPAcoaxialcable.
